'Shooting ÂPasanga is a challenge'

ÂPasangaÂ, produced by director Sasi Kumar, promises to be a whacky film with many young kids, if the stills of the movie are any indication to go by. Inspired by Dr Abdul KalamÂs Kanavu Kanungal, it is a movie centering on the lives and world of these children and their aspirations.
An interesting story goes behind the audition of the children who play the lead roles in the film. The director of the film, Pandiraj, has personally did a head hunt, looking for apt children to play his ÂPasangaÂ. He waited at the entrance of schools and picked students he found playing a prank on each other or being naughty while getting out of school. And thus he spotted the small boys who would then become his heroes.
Once the casting was done, the film took about 85 days to be shot, mostly in the directorÂs hometown. James Vasanthan, whose musical score for ÂSubramaniapuram won him rave reviews, is composing music for this film too. He has made Dr Balamuralikrishna croon for a song after a long time. Shreya Goshal and Belly Raj (of Kangal Irandaal fame) are among the other singers, and also a group of kids.
The photo shoot for the film seems to have been an equally interesting fare, with the boys donning costumes and looks of popular heroes in their blockbusters. In fact, a still of the boys in the now-famous ÂSubramaniapuram pose has also been taken for the photo shoot. For this, the original costumes used by the ÂSubramaniapuram actors was altered and the same was used by the children too!
ÂPasanga is director PandirajÂs debut film. This former assistant to director Cheran says shooting was an arduous task. ÂItÂs very challenging to make children act for the camera. They are too smart for their age and can outsmart us anytime, he says.
ÂPasanga is slated to be an early May release.
